Certified Hyperbaric Technologist Veterinary (CHTV)
In the early 2000’s a small nucleus of interested people, passionate about the use of veterinary hyperbaric medicine, formed the Veterinary Hyperbaric Medicine Society (VHMS).
The VHMS recognized a need to provide quality training for veterinarians and veterinary technicians in hyperbaric medicine, chamber safety and chamber operation, specific to animal species. This formal training is critical to providing successful hyperbaric treatment of animal patients and for ensuring the safe operation of animal chambers.
Caribbean Hyperbaric Medicine is unique in that we have a hyperbaric animal chamber. Students will get hands on experience with an animal chamber and access to veterinary specialists. This course addresses indications, dosing, potential complications, side effects, and safety. To date, interested veterinary personnel have utilized training courses designed for human medical professionals.
The National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology has in place an approval process for these courses. Those who successfully complete our approved training course in hyperbaric technology, and have met the requirements of a defined preceptorship period at an approved facility will become eligible to sit for the Certified Hyperbaric Technologist Veterinary (CHTV) examination.
We operate our CHTV Training courses concurrently with our Florida based Hyperbaric Team Training courses. The physics, physiology and safety aspects of HBOT are the same for human and animal patients therefore candidates for CHVT attend classes with candidates for CHT. However, CHVT students will learn their practical chamber operating skills using our state of the art companion animal (Class C) hyperbaric chamber.
It is therefore possible for students who successfully complete our Hyperbaric Team Training course to elect to pursue accreditation in CHT, CHTV, or both if they are willing to spend extra time cross training on our Class A, B, & C hyperbaric chambers.
